Report by Phil Tutchings - TD and Organiser Forty one players attended this year’s Coventry Open tournament at Coventry & North Warwickshire Cricket & Squash Club. Entrants came from throughout England including participants from Liverpool, Manchester, Burnley, Yorkshire, Newcastle, St Albans, Camberley, Hemel Hempsted, Brighton, Wycombe and London joining players from across the Midlands. Myke Wignall came through the field to defeat Paul Plumptre in a nine point final and succeed Mark Calderbank as Coventry Open Champion. This is Myke’s third win in four major tournaments (having won the last two Biba events). He was also runner-up in September’s BFCE Midland Open (and winner of the Friday warm-up of that event) – so the form player of the moment! Julian Fetterlein came through the progressive side of the thirty seven player consolation tournament to win against Neil Everitt in the final. Brian Lever won the thirty player five point Last Chance event winning against David Pritchard in the final. Thanks to all players for making this an easy tournament to manage (not a single dispute in any game and all played in good spirit). Also thanks to Di for all of her help in running the tournament, Eric for photography (and loan of his camera!) and to all of the staff at the club for the catering and work on the day.
